Category:Malaysian law Category:History of Malaysia Category:Malaysian Royal and Supreme Ordinance not controlled or independently verified. Validity of WGS data -------------------- Since much of the data used here was obtained from published studies, we cannot always ensure their accuracy. However, since we re-calculated all the relevant parameters when available, we believe that our results are valid. However, there is a risk of measurement errors and confusions in using the published data, including misclassification of samples and misspecification of epidemiological parameters. There is also a risk of errors in the sequence data, including low-quality WGS or failed assemblies. However, we did not include these errors in our model. Even so, the accuracy of the model used in this study may not be 100% since factors such as the overall difference of input data, error in sampling, and number of samples cannot be ignored. Public health significance -------------------------- Using national WGS data, we obtained an influenza A pandemic risk map for the 2012-2013 influenza season. Based on the 2012-2013 model, the median age group at highest pandemic risk was adults aged 40--64. By contrast, in the 2011-2012 influenza season, the age groups of 10--19, 20--29, 30--39, and 40--49 years accounted for 20%, 19%, 22%, and 16% of the pandemic risk, respectively. In a previous influenza pandemic of 1957--58, the highest risk was in children aged 2--4 years. In the 2009 pandemic, the highest risk was in adults aged 50--59 and those aged 20--29 years. By examining the distribution of population density, we found that the highest risk was not in the central area of the country, but in the southern region. Therefore, it is important to take the national spatial variability into consideration when implementing pandemic response plans. In terms of local spatial variability, high-risk areas are known to be located in the central area of the country. The central area has a high population density, which can lead to faster spread of viruses. Meanwhile, areas with low population density are located in the southern region of the country. The low population density is related to the geographical isolation of the southern region, which can slow down the spread of viruses in this region. The areas with intermediate population density can be found in urban areas, including Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Penang.
